What Is the Service Life of a GOLDWELD Exothermic Welding Mould?
GOLDWELD exothermic welding moulds are manufactured from high-temperature-resistant graphite, capable of withstanding reaction temperatures of up to 3,000°C. Depending on operating and maintenance conditions, each mould can typically be reused for approximately 70–100 welding cycles.
To maximize service life, the mould should be kept dry, cleaned properly, protected from impact, and inspected regularly. Replacement is recommended if the mould develops cracks, deformation, excessive cavity wear, or can no longer close securely and hold the conductors in the correct position.
Proper handling and maintenance help extend mould service life and ensure consistent weld quality.

GOLDWELD exothermic welding moulds are designed to create permanent electrical connections in grounding, lightning protection, and equipotential bonding systems. Common connection configurations include?
– Copper-to-Copper
– Copper-to-Copper-Bonded Steel Ground Rod
– Copper-to-Steel
– Steel-to-Steel, where an appropriate connection configuration is specified
Note: Not suitable for aluminium connections.
Each mould is specifically engineered for a particular material type, conductor size/cross-sectional area, and connection configuration. Therefore, a single mould cannot be used for all types of connections.

What Types of Exothermic Welding Material Are Available, and What Is GOLDWELD Welding Material Used For?
GOLDWELD exothermic welding material is available in 90 g, 115 g, 150 g, 200 g, and 250 g charge sizes, selected according to the conductor size, connection configuration, and mould type.
Once initiated, the welding material undergoes an exothermic reaction that produces molten metal. The molten metal flows through the graphite mould and solidifies at the connection point, forming a permanent metallurgical connection with high electrical conductivity and long-term stability, without requiring an external power source.
